Safety Research Unit (SRU) was established in August 2005 in the scope of SAFEAST and TÜBİTAK projects and by the support of METU. SRU is divided into two sections, which are general safety section and traffic safety section. General safety includes such topics as work safety and organizational safety culture, patient safety in hospitals, and unintentional injuries in daily life. Traffic safety section is conducting wide variety of studies related to road users safety.

The main aim of the SRU is to conduct applied studies of high academic merit about safety and health promoting behaviours in life in general and in road traffic in particular. For this purpose, research team uses different techniques and methodologies like on-road measurements, psycho-technical and neuropsychological laboratory tests, and questionnaires.

By its nature, our work requires strong multidisciplinary approach. The research at SRU is therefore carried out in close co-operation with universities, governmental bodies, public agencies and private companies.
